Vobster Scarves
Handwoven scarves in a rich natural brown Romney lambswool with natural dyed 'fishtail' patterning
These scarves have been handwoven by Jade Ogden in Somerset, using local regeneratively farmed sheep wool from high on the Mendip Hills, less than 10 miles from the loom. Some of the wool has been hand dyed with plants, including madder root, weld and coreopsis flowers. The colours really pop out of the deep, natural brown of the sheep.
The scarves have a lovely weight - from their high thread count - which creates a relaxed drape around the body. It has bold patterning owhich has been created by a slow and methodical point return technique.
These textiles have been slowly handcrafted on a table loom - each thread has been passed through the warp, one-by-one, by hand and one scarf took around 12 hours to create.
They are 'soil-to-soil' textiles, due to being crafted from pure natural materials, at the end of their long lives, they can be returned to nourish the earth via the compost heap.
I hope you enjoy these unique, Somerset made textiles.
